Why does my basement leak when it rains?
Rain-related leakage can involve roof runoff, exterior levels, window wells and foundation pathways. Photos showing when and where water first appears are useful. Avoid assuming the wettest indoor spot is the exterior source.
What to look for.
- Where does water first appear: wall, floor joint, window or drain?
- Does the problem follow rain, snowmelt or periods of dry weather?
- Are finishes hiding the foundation or an existing drainage system?
Observe only from a safe place. Do not touch electrical equipment in wet areas or climb onto a wet roof.
